Titus 2:1-5 " A Relevant Church "

Titus 2:1–5 (ESV)

1 But as for you, teach what accords with sound doctrine.

2 Older men are to be sober-minded, dignified, self-controlled, sound in faith, in love, and in steadfastness.

3 Older women likewise are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers or slaves to much wine. They are to teach what is good,

4 and so train the young women to love their husbands and children,

5 to be self-controlled, pure, working at home, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be reviled.

The church TODAY

Have become irrelevant

But as long as the world is existing

The church will NEVER become irrelevant

Because God has design the church

And Jesus shed His blood for the church

Note: Church has become unimportant to the world and CHURCH FOLKS

Paul wanted Titus to know

That if he was going to have a relevant church & ministry

He was going to have to teach

Sound Doctrine & have a Mature Congregation

But the Sound Doctrine was predicated

On Titus

And the Mature Congregation was predicated

On them digesting the word of God

Note: YOU are RESPONSIBLE for your own GROWTH

Paul wanted Titus to be concerned about the TOTAL MAN

2 Timothy 3:16–17 (CSB)

16 All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness,

17 so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

Note: THE TOTAL MAN

The Pastor back in the day didn’t have education but they had the word of God and the congregation teaching the younger people but the Pastor’s today - Evangelist — Prophet’s — Prophetess — Doctor’s — Apostle’s but not RELEVANT

Back in the day the church

Was the PLACE to go it was a RELEVANT CHURCH

That’s one of the main reasons

People dressed up to go to church [ Church History ]

No More Suits Today

Back in the day

Because the church was Relevant

People didn’t take their plates to go

They stayed and fellowship

But today — TO-GO plates now

Note: Pastor Carter say we don’t need no fellowship Hall

In Titus Paul want Titus to promote Right Teaching

He want Titus to have a Relevant Church

But most of all Sound Doctrine

In chapter 1, Paul set the primary goal

for Titus’s ministry in Crete:

Titus was to teach all the new converts

to become “strong in the faith” (1:13).

Paul commented on the primary social relationships

that were central to the growth

of the church in Crete.

He did not try to change the system;

instead, he sought to change the persons

within the systems.

Marriages, homes, slavery, and work

are all transformed more profoundly

from within than from without.

Through Titus, Paul was planting seeds

of significant change

in every facet of life on Crete.

But it all depended on the truth of the gospel message.

In verses 1-5 Titus had to teach Sound Doctrine

That the Older Men & Women

Can not just grow old but grow up SPIRITUALLY

1st Legacy had to be Left / Impact Them

2nd Love had to be Learned / Interact with Them

3rd Lifestyle had to be Lived / Imitate Christ in front of Them

1st Legacy had to be Left / Impact Them

The older Impact the Younger by investing words in them

Example: Ole School sisters would say “ Let Mom tell you something “

Note: Someone may say you can’t tell those young people nothing “ Yes you can “

Note: And the reason why you can tell them is because home is not telling them and they really want to know but no one taking time with them

Note: Impact them by showing them how to be Husbands & Wives

Young Men — cut grass

Young Men — Was cars

Young Women — Cook & Clean even though you work

Young Women — Take care of your Husband Intimately

1st Legacy had to be Left / Impact Them

2nd Love had to be Learned / Interact with Them

Note: Let the young people know you will meet them where they are , catch them then clean them

Note: Extend Grace & Mercy to them

3rd Lifestyle had to be Lived / Imitate Christ in front of Them

Note: Live what you’re telling them

Note: Show them Christ
